From the Track to Ala Moana: The Story Behind Speed Gear

It all started back in 1994 when we first opened our doors at the Ala Moana Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.

As a lifelong racing enthusiast and weekend racer, I always knew speed was in my blood. Living in Hawaii, Ala Moana felt like the ultimate location to bring that passion to life. We wanted to build more than just a store—we wanted to create a destination for motorsport fans, and that’s how Speed Gear was born.

Our vision was to bring the world of Formula 1 right to the heart of the Pacific. Over the years, Speed Gear became home to one of the most incredible collections of authentic F1 memorabilia anywhere.

If you walked into our shop, you were surrounded by racing history:

Iconic Helmets: Original race-worn helmets from some of the greatest drivers to ever hit the track. Championship Steering Wheels: Masterpieces of engineering, including Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari wheel, Rubens Barrichello’s Stewart GP wheel, and the legendary Ayrton Senna’s Toleman wheel from his iconic 1984 debut season in Formula 1.

Speed Gear was born out of a pure love for racing, built for the fans who live for the roar of the engine and the thrill of the track.
